Track and Field Resumes Indoor Campaign at Dr. Sander Scorcher

The Red Storm will compete on Friday and Saturday at The Armory
QUEENS, N.Y. – St. John's track and field returns to action this weekend as it competes in the Dr. Sander Scorcher. The two-day meet begins on Friday and will take place at the Nike Track and Field Center at The Armory in Washington Heights, N.Y.
Both the Friday and Saturday sessions will begin at 9:30 a.m. Tickets can be purchased online here. Live results can be found online at redstormsports.com and on armorytrack.live. The meet will be streamed both days on runnersspace.com, with a portion of Saturday's meet airing on NBC and Peacock.
On Friday, Nia-Ruby Forbes-Agyepong is set to race in the 60-meter hurdles invitational section. The freshman is coming off a fifth-place finish at the Youree Spence Garcia Invitational on Dec. 6, stopping the clock in 8.90 seconds. The distance medley relay will wrap up Friday's session for the Red Storm.
Returning to the track and the long jump pit are BIG EAST Women's Track Athlete and Field Athlete of the Week honorees Nora Haugen and Linn Hertz Saebbo. Haugen captured Women's Track Athlete of the Week, while Hertz Saebbo was tabbed Field Athlete of the Week for their performances at the Youree Spence Garcia Invitational.
Haugen's Norwegian national record of 1 minute, 26.93 seconds in the 600-meters currently sits third in the NCAA. Hertz Saebbo's mark of 6.05 meters in the long jump leads the BIG EAST and ranks among the top 35 in the NCAA.
This weekend, Haugen is set to race in her first half-mile of the indoor season. The senior will compete in the USA 800-meter Pro/Elite section on Saturday during the Peacock broadcast window. Joining her is teammate Chinenye Josephine Onuorah, who will race in the 200-meter invitational during the same televised time slot. A quartet of Johnnies will also compete in the women's 4x400-meter relay during the broadcast.
Hertz Saebbo and Cassandra Lemus-Sodji hit the runway in the women's invitational long jump on Saturday. Both student-athletes own personal bests over the 6-meter mark.
Rounding out the jumps for the Johnnies will be a trio of high jumpers in the invitational section on Saturday.
Senior Jamora Alves closes out the meet for the Red Storm in the women's invitational shot put. Alves opened her indoor season with a toss of 14.40 meters at the Youree Spence Garcia Invitational.
After this weekend's action, St. John's will look to capture its fourth straight Metropolitan Indoor Championship on Friday, Jan. 30, at Ocean Breeze.
