Van Macon to Pursue New Professional Opportunities

Queens native spent six seasons on the Red Storm’s men’s basketball staff
QUEENS, N.Y. – Van Macon has stepped down from his position on the St. John's men's basketball staff to pursue new professional opportunities. Macon completed his sixth season on the Red Storm coaching staff in 2024-25 serving as an assistant coach. He previously spent two years as the program's associate head coach from 2021-2023.
"We greatly appreciate Van Macon's contributions to St. John's Basketball and wish him the best in his future endeavors," said Red Storm Head Coach Rick Pitino.
Over the past two years, Macon was a member of the Red Storm coaching staff that guided St. John's to a 51-18 overall record including a 29-11 mark in BIG EAST play. The Johnnies finished a memorable 2024-25 campaign tying a program record with 31 victories and earned a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament. St. John's also took home the BIG EAST Regular Season and Tournament titles.
Macon arrived at St. John's in 2019 serving as an assistant coach for his first two seasons. He was elevated to associated head coach for the next two years.
