Chinenye Onuorah and Nora Haugen Advance to NCAA Quarterfinals

Onuorah qualified in the 400-meter dash, while Haugen advanced in the 800-meter run
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Chinenye Onuorah and Nora Haugen both advanced to the NCAA Track & Field Quarterfinals in the 400-meter dash and 800-meter run on Thursday afternoon at UNF's Visit Jax Track at Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville, Fla.
Onuorah started the Red Storm's day with a bang, sprinting to a personal-record 52.70-second mark for second in her heat and 23rd overall in the first round of the 400-meter dash. The junior started in the middle of the pack before turning on the jets after the last turn to push her way into the automatic qualifier for the NCAA 400-Meter Dash Quarterfinal.
Racing in the final of six heats, Haugen posted a season-best 2:03.48 finish for second place in her group and 16th overall in the preliminary round of the 800-meter run. The Norway native held firm with the top four in the race until the final 200-meter stretch where she sprinted through the inside lane for a second-place photo finish.
Onuorah and Haugen will return to the track on Saturday when they participate in the 400-meter dash and 800-meter run quarterfinals. Onuorah and Haugen will race at 6:50 p.m. and 7:05 p.m., respectively.
Due to lightening in the area, Jamora Alves will compete in the shot put tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. at the Visit Jax Track at Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville, Fla.
