QUEENS, N.Y. (Feb. 26, 2026) – The St. John's track and field team will compete in the 2026 BIG EAST Indoor Track and Field Championship, presented by JEEP, this weekend at the Dr. Conrad Worrill Track and Field Center at Gately Park in Chicago, Ill. The two-day meet begins on Friday morning at 11:30 a.m. and concludes on Saturday afternoon.
The Red Storm is slated to compete in 13 events. On Friday, most track events will contest the preliminary rounds, with the exception of the 5,000-meter run and distance medley relay, while the field events will hold the preliminary and final rounds that day. On Saturday, all track events will run the finals, and field events will hold the preliminary and final rounds for the shot put, triple jump and high jump.
Last season, the Johnnies recorded a third-place finish as a team and scored 93 points behind 20 different point scorers. St. John's made the podium in seven events, including gold medal finishes from Jamora Alves in the shot put and the 4x400-meter relay team. UConn returns as the defending women's champion, finishing ahead of Georgetown in second.
A total of 10 Johnnies sit inside the top five of their respective events heading into championship weekend. Fia Viklund stands atop the conference in the triple jump with a season-best mark of 12.55m (41 feet, 2.25 inches) at the Dr. Sander Scorcher.
Alves has two top-five marks. She sits second in the shot put with a toss of 15.33m (50 feet, 3.5 inches) and fourth in the weight throw with a heave of 16.86m (55 feet, 3.75 inches). Her teammate Juliet Smith follows closely in fifth place with a mark of 16.72m (54 feet, 10.25 inches).
Also in second is Linn Hertz Saebbo in the long jump. The senior recorded a mark of 6.05m (19 feet, 10.25 inches), while Cassandra Lemus-Sodji is on her heels with a jump of 5.99m (19 feet, 8 inches) in third. Ashley Sadler is one of three high jumpers in the league to clear a 1.70m (5 feet, 7 inches) bar, ranking third heading into the weekend.
On the track, the 800-meter duo of Nora Haugen and Naiara Garcia-Moreno are third and fourth in the BIG EAST, running 2 minutes, 3.90 seconds and 2:05.96, respectively. In the 200-meter dash, Jalen Jackson slots in fourth at 24.55 seconds, and Nyla Henderson is in a three-way tie for fifth, running 24.56 seconds.
Should any student-athletes qualify, the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships will take place from March 13-14 at the Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Ark.
