QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's men's basketball program announced the official signing of Swedish guard Casper Pohto on Tuesday.

"Casper is a physical guard who has the ability to attack downhill and fits perfect with our style of play," said 2024-25 National Coach of the Year Rick Pitino. "He is a young athlete who will learn from a lot of great veterans, which will be special for his growth and special for our basketball team."
Pohto spent his final high school season with the Buffaloes as the squad compiled a 17-7 record and advanced to the EYBL Scholastic Conference Tournament Semifinals.
Prior to arriving in Kansas, Pohto competed in FIBA U18 EuroBasket in 2024 as the Stockholm, Sweden native averaged 13.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game over seven contests, including a tournament-best 24 points against Greece on July 28, 2024. Pohto's older brother, Kenny, just closed out his collegiate career with stints at Wichita State and UC Santa Barbara. The 6-foot-11 forward spent three years with the Shockers before earning All-Big West Honorable Mention recognition during his final campaign with the Gauchos in 2024-25.
