Four St. John’s Programs Earn BIG EAST Team Academic Excellence Award

Baseball, women’s golf, women’s tennis and volleyball post league’s top GPA in their respective sports
NEW YORK– Four St. John's programs- baseball, women's golf, women's tennis and volleyball earned the BIG EAST Team Academic Excellence award, the league office announced on Thursday morning.
The 2024-25 BIG EAST Academic Excellence Team award is presented to the program with the highest GPA across the conference's 22 sponsored sports. The four St. John's programs marked tied for the second-most in the league, Creighton held the most with five.
The four teams marked the most St. John's squads to win the honor since 2020, when six programs garnered the BIG EAST Team Academic Excellence awards.
The baseball team garners the honor for the second consecutive year ending the school year with a 3.61 mark in the classroom. The award marks the program's ninth time as the top achieving academic team in BIG EAST baseball and the third under Head Coach Mike Hampton.
The women's golf team earns this accolade for the fifth time in the last seven years after logging a 3.88 GPA. Under Head Coach Ambry Bishop-Santillo, the program has had a long-standing tradition of academic excellence and has placed in the Top-25 of the WGCA All-Scholar Team Rankings for five consecutive years.
The women's tennis team had the highest GPA of any BIG EAST program during this past academy year boasting an impressive 3.91. The Johnnies were named an ITA All-Academic Team and made their 10th straight BIG EAST Tournament Semifinals appearance in 2025.
The volleyball squad posted its highest GPA in program history finishing with a 3.82 in the 2024-25 academic year. The Red Storm is coming off its best postseason finish advancing to the National Invitation Volleyball Championship (NIVC) Fab Four.
