Dillon Mitchell Named to BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll

Mitchell averaged 17.0 points and 9.0 rebounds as Red Storm win streak expands to six games
QUEENS, N.Y. - For the first time this season, St. John's men's basketball forward Dillon Mitchell earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, the conference office on Monday.
Mitchell averaged 17.0 points on 63.6 percent shooting, 9.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 3.0 steals per game as the Red Storm winning streak expanded to six games.
The start of the six-game winning streak coincides with Mitchell's return to the starting line-up on Jan. 6 at Butler. Since re-entering the starting five and fortifying a three forward rotation, the versatile big man has averaged 11.0 points on 60.5 percent shooting, 8.7 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.7 steals per game.
Mitchell played an integral role in two 15+ point second half comebacks for the Johnnies in wins over Seton Hall and Xavier. In Tuesday's win 65-60 victory over Seton Hall at Madison Square Garden, Mitchell finished with a team-high 17 points and tied a season-high with 11 boards. It marked the Tampa Bay native's second straight double-double, his first in consecutive games since the forward's sophomore campaign while at Texas. The team captain reached the 1,000 career point mark in the win over the Pirates.
On Saturday, the Cincinnati transfer showed out in his return to the Queen City, guiding the Red Storm to an 88-83 victory over Xavier. Mitchell posted 17 points, seven rebounds and matched a career-best with six assists and four steals. He combined with Zuby Ejiofor for 14 of 16 points to during a crucial 16-1 scoring run in the second half. The 16-point comeback effort lifted Head Coach Rick Pitino to his 900th career victory.
On the year, Mitchell has started eight of 20 contests and is averaging 9.5 points on a team-high 61.1 percent shooting, 6.7 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.4 steals per game. The senior has led the Johnnies in assists in eight games this season and his rebounding mark ranks ninth in the BIG EAST.
