Freshman standout has been honored by the league five times this season
NEW YORK – St. John's Volleyball freshman standout Carola Tesoro was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for her performances over the weekend, the league office announced on Monday afternoon.
Monday's honor marked the fifth instance this season that the rookie star has made the weekly honor. Tesoro last appeared on the honor roll on Oct. 5, when she was named the BIG EAST Rookie of the Week.
Tesoro continued to make her case for being the top freshman in the league, turning in another pair of impressive performances in a 1-1 weekend for St. John's. In a five-set match at Villanova, she recorded her 10th double-double of the season, posting a match-high 22 kills to go along with 10 digs. Against Georgetown, she fired 13 kills, while adding a service ace, eight digs and a block assist in a 3-1 win in Washington, D.C.
Following this weekend, Tesoro continues to pace the BIG EAST with 347 kills and is second in the league with 3.94 kills per set. The Milan, Italy, native is one of two players in the conference to record more than 330 kills this season.
In the national ranks, Tesoro sits 11th in NCAA Division I in total kills and ranks first among all freshmen. Additionally, she is one of only six freshmen to fire 300 or more kills on the year. With six regular season matches remaining, Tesoro is on pace to record 438 kills on the year.
Tesoro and the Red Storm conclude the longest road trip of the season with a Midwest swing at Butler and Xavier this weekend.
