Junior forward scored goal in 1-1 draw at No. 4 Creighton on Friday night
QUEENS, N.Y. – After finding the back of the net in the Red Storm's 1-1 draw at No. 4 Creighton on Friday night, Travis Thompson has earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, it was announced on Monday afternoon by the league office.
Thompson, a junior forward from Garden City, N.Y., tallied his third goal of the season in the 31st minute to give the Red Storm the lead. Creighton knotted the score at one apiece on a penalty kick just a few minutes later, but the Johnnies held off the high-powered Creighton attack to escape Omaha with a point against the undefeated Bluejays who had been averaged 3.25 goals per game entering the weekend.
Friday's tie was the Red Storm's highest ranked road result since drawing with No. 3 USF on Oct. 10, 2009, in Tampa.
Thompson's three goals this season are tied for the team lead with fellow Long Islander Luca Fargnoli, who assisted on Thompson's tally in Omaha.
Thompson and the Red Storm will return to action on Tuesday night when they host Monmouth in Queens. Kick-off from Cox Family Field at Belson Stadium is set for 7 p.m. on ESPN+.
