Ejiofor averaged 18.5 points, 9.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game last week
QUEENS, N.Y. - For the seventh time this season, St. John's men's basketball standout Zuby Ejiofor was recognized by the conference earning a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday.
Ejiofor has twice been named BIG EAST Player of the Week and earned a spot on the honor roll five different times in 14 possible weeks.
Ejiofor averaged 18.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 2.0 blocks in a pair of wins over DePaul and No. 3/3 UConn as the Johnnies winning streak extended to nine games. The senior led all players in scoring, rebounding and assists in both contests.
The 6-foot-9 forward was all over the floor in Friday night's 81-72 victory over the Huskies, earning the program's highest ranked win at MSG since Jan. 30, 2011 when it beat No. 3/3 Duke. Ejiofor became the only player in NCAA Division I this season to record 21 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists (tied career-high), three blocks and two steals in a single-game. Additionally, he moved into ninth all-time at St. John's with 132 career blocks surpassing George Johnson, who recorded 130 from 1974-78.
Earlier in the week, the Garland, Texas native propelled St. John's to a 68-56 win over DePaul in Chicago on Tuesday. The team captain led all players with 16 points, nine rebounds and four helpers at Wintrust Arena.
On the year, the veteran leads the team and ranks top-10 in the BIG EAST in scoring (15.9 PPG), rebounding (7.6 RPG), assists (3.5 APG), and blocks (2.0 BPG). He is the only player in high major basketball and one of three in NCAA Division I to rank top-10 in the conference in four of those statistical categories joined by Utah Valley's Jackson Holcombe and Raysean Seamster of UT-Arlington.
As of Monday morning, Ejiofor ranks top-30 nationally in blocks per game (26th at 2.0), offensive rebounds per game (16th at 3.7) and free throw attempts (18th at 178). The senior has delivered five double-doubles and six 20-plus point scoring performances this season.
St. John's will be back in action tonight when it meets Xavier at Madison Square Garden for a 6:30 p.m. tip-off on FS1.
