Dylan Darling, Bryce Hopkins and Zuby Ejiofor were named to CSC All-District Team
QUEENS, N.Y. - A trio of St. John's men's basketball players - Dylan Darling, Zuby Ejiofor and Bryce Hopkins - were named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team, the organization announced on Tuesday.
Â
The three Johnnies were honored for their success on the court and in the classroom. In order to qualify for the award, student-athletes must achieve a 3.5 GPA or higher and compete in 90 percent of the team's contests. Hopkins and Ejiofor will be considered for CSC Academic All-America honors, which will be announced in April.
Â
The Big Sky Player of the Year at Idaho State in 2025, Darling has been a spark plug for the Red Storm this season. The guard is averaging 6.9 points and a team-high 1.4 steals per game in 34 appearances. A clutch player for St. John's all season long, the Spokane, Wash., native's heroics shined brightest on Sunday in San Diego. Darling drove to the basket kissing a lay-up of the glass as time expired to lift the Johnnies past Kansas, 67-65, and into the Sweet 16 for the first time since 1999. In the classroom, Darling holds a 3.66 GPA as a communication major.
Â
Hopkins, a graduate student, is averaging 13.5 points and 6.2 rebounds per contest in 36 starts this season. The Oak Park, Ill., native broke the St. John's NCAA Tournament record for single-game made 3-pointers on Sunday with six in the win over Kansas. The wing was named an All-BIG EAST Second Team selection, a BIG EAST All-Tournament Team honoree and an NABC All-District First Team choice. Off the court, Hopkins boasts a 3.68 GPA in business management.
Â
Ejiofor, a CSC Second Team Academic All-America honoree 2024-25 has been a model student-athlete during his time in Queens. The forward became the first player in league history to be named BIG EAST Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, Scholar-Athlete of the Year and win the Dave Gavitt Trophy as the BIG EAST Tournament Most Outstanding Player. An active member in the campus community the Garland, Texas native carries a 3.77 GPA.
Â
The Red Storm will be back in action on Friday night when it takes on top-seeded Duke in the East Regional Semifinal at 7:10 p.m. on CBS in Washington.
