The Red Storm can clinch a share of its second straight BIG EAST Regular Season Championship with a victory on Friday
QUEENS, N.Y. - The No. 18/17 St. John's men's basketball team will close out the regular season on Friday at Seton Hall for a 9 p.m. tip-off at the Prudential Center.
With a win on Friday, the Red Storm (24-6, 17-2 BIG EAST) will clinch a share of the BIG EAST Regular Season Championship and earn the top seed in next week's 2026 BIG EAST Tournament at Madison Square Garden. It would mark back-to-back regular season titles for the Johnnies for the first time since 1984-85 & 1985-86.
Friday night's contest from Newark will be nationally televised on FS1 with Alex Faust and Nick Bahe on the call.
The LEARFIELD St. John's Radio Network broadcast will be available with John Minko and Brandon Tierney on 1050 AM ESPN New York, the ESPN New York App, the Varsity Network, TuneIn, Sirius XM Channel 84, the SiriusXM App and the St. John's Red Storm App.
In its last time out, St. John's captured a 72-69 victory over Georgetown on Senior Night at Madison Square Garden. The Red Storm trailed by 12 with 14:08 remaining before ending the game on a 36-21 run to win its 11th straight over the Hoyas, the longest winning streak in the history of the series.
Tuesday's victory marked the 75th for Head Coach Rick Pitino in 99 games at St. John's. The Naismith Memorial Hall of Famer is the third BIG EAST coach to tally 75 wins in less than 100 games at a member institution, joining Pittsburgh's Jamie Dixon (2003-06) and John Thompson II (1979-82).
Following its last victory, St. John's has won 35 league games over the last two seasons, which marks the most in a two-season span in BIG EAST history. With a win on Friday, the Red Storm will tie the 2024-25 team and 2023-24 Connecticut for a league record with 18 conference victories.
Additionally, the Red Storm was victorious in its 10th game of the year at MSG, representing the first time the Johnnies have won double-digit contests at The World's Most Famous Arena since 1950-52. St. John's will return to The Mecca next week to defend its BIG EAST Tournament Championship.
Zuby Ejiofor led the charge during his final regular season home game pouring in 23 points on 10-of-13 (76.9 percent) shooting from the floor, seven rebounds, five assists, two steals and two blocks in Midtown Manhattan. The big man ranks top-10 in the BIG EAST in scoring (15.8 PPG), rebounding (7.2 RPG), assists (3.6 APG) and blocks (1.9 BPG) this season. Ejiofor has recorded eight 20-plus point performances and recorded a triple-double last weekend against Villanova on Feb. 28.
Joson Sanon played a crucial role during the Red Storm resurgence on Tuesday coming up with key buckets and clutch rebounds during the second half. The sophomore guard scored all of is BIG EAST-high 15 points and four of his six boards in the latter stanza.
The Red Storm has excelled in taking care of the basketball. During league play, the Johnnies averaged 9.0 turnovers per contest, which ranks atop the BIG EAST. The Red Storm has not committed more than 12 turnovers in a single conference contest and has logged single-digit giveaways in eight BIG EAST games. Overall, this season, St. John's ranks 16th in NCAA Division I in turnover margin at +3.5.

The Johnnies have won four of the last five meetings, most recently a 65-60 triumph at Madison Square Garden on Jan. 20. Seton Hall (20-10, 10-9 BIG EAST) is coming off a 77-68 victory over Xavier in Cincinnati on Tuesday. With the win, the Pirates earned a bye in the BIG EAST Tournament locking up the fourth seed after being picked 11th in the conference's preseason poll.
The Pirates boast one of the nation's top defensive units, ranking 13th nationally in adjusted defensive efficiency, according to KenPom. Seton Hall is top-10 in NCAA Division I in scoring defense limiting opponents to just 64.8 points per game.
Seton Hall's backcourt tandem of Budd Clark (12.3 PPG) and AJ Staton-McCray (12.1 PPG) has paced Shaheen Holloway's squad offensively. Additionally, Clark ranks third in the BIG EAST averaging 2.0 steals per game.
Following Friday's contest, St. John's will prepare for the 2026 BIG EAST Tournament presented by JEEP. The Red Storm will open the tournament in the quarterfinal round on Thursday, March 12 at Madison Square Garden.
