St. John’s Athletics Hosts 80th Annual Athletics Awards Dinner

Over 500 student-athletes, coaches and staff members gathered to celebrate the 2025-26 school year on Tuesday night
QUEENS, N.Y.– The St. John's Athletic Department gathered on Tuesday night to celebrate and remember all the athletic and academic accomplishments of the 2025-26 school year at the 80th annual Athletic Awards Dinner.
The evening began with a mass led by Campus Minister for Athletics, Fr. Richard Rock C. M. at St. Thomas More Church. Once all the attendees arrived at Carnesecca Arena, Vice President and Director of Athletics Ed Kull started off award ceremony by addressing the crowd of over 500 student-athletes, coaches and staff members.
Following dinner, Co-Masters of Ceremony Senior Associate Athletic Director and Senior Woman Administrator Kristin Quinn and Senior Director of Academic Support for Student-Athletes Ray Howell introduced the team MVP's and character awards given to all 17 varsity programs and the three spirit teams.
Student-athletes Malwina Kolodziejczyk of women's fencing and Quinn Falasca from lacrosse presented awards voted on by the student-athletes to their fellow classmates. The awards organized by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) were handed out by SAAC President Desiree Pagan.
Nine special recognition awards were presented to acknowledge those athletes, coaches and staff members who have gone above and beyond the sport in their most recent season. Additionally, over 20 individuals were recognized by their teams and three individuals were celebrated for their accomplishments with the spirit programs.
The Herbert V. Hess Award was awarded to the department's coach of the year. This year's winner was Men's Tennis Head Dillon Pottish. The leader of the BIG EAST Coaching Staff of the Year led the Johnnies to their third conference title in the last four years.
The Frank C. Haggerty Memorial Award and the John W. Kaiser Award were presented to the Red Storm's most outstanding male and female student-athletes. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Center of the Year Zuby Ejiofor was tabbed the Haggerty Award winner and two-time USTFCCCA Honorable Mention All-America and seven-time BIG EAST Champion Jamora Alves took home the Kaiser Award.
Edgar Ford of lacrosse and volleyball's Erin Jones earned the Rickard McSwiney Awards for their pride in team achievements, determination as a competitor and the ability to lead.
Women's soccer's Kayla Bower and Armando Sotelo of men's tennis were presented with the Elizabeth Lapchick Awards, given to the student-athletes that have improved the most academically over their time in Queens.
Women's soccer senior Mia Agresti was named the John DaSilva Memorial Award recipient, an honor bestowed upon a deserving student-athlete who exhibits courage, persistence and fortitude.
Each year, St. John's celebrates a team manager who has played a significant role for his or her sport. This year's James Kevin Beatty Memorial winner was presented to Nick Vega for his dedication to the men's basketball team.
The Walter T. McLaughlin Award, which recognizes unsung staff members for their dedication to the Red Storm's student-athletes, was awarded to Senior Associate Athletics Director/ Chief Financial Officer Michael Barry.
