St. John’s Men’s Basketball Hosts 2026 Lou Carnesecca Golf Classic

Annual event raised nearly half a million dollars for the men’s basketball program
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's men's basketball program hosted its annual Lou Carnesecca Golf Classic on Monday, reuniting scores of Red Storm supporters and raising nearly half a million dollars in support of the men's basketball team.
Held at a renowned and exclusive venue on Long Island's North Shore, the Lou Carnesecca Golf Classic generated $450,000 to aid the efforts of Head Coach Rick Pitino in maintaining the upward trajectory of the Red Storm men's basketball program.
The event attracted nearly 80 golfers, who enjoyed a picture-perfect afternoon on the course before a dinner program that featured remarks from Pitino, St. John's President Rev Brian Shanley, O.P., and Vice President and Director of Athletics Ed Kull.
Monday's Carnesecca Golf Classic was not the only opportunity that St. John's fans will have this summer to gather in support of their beloved Johnnies. Early next month, the program will host two events in Saratoga Springs: a golf outing at Saratoga National (Aug. 4) followed by a Day at the Races (Aug. 5) at the famed Saratoga Race Course. The golf outing is currently sold out, but sponsorship opportunities are available by reaching out to David Parker (David.Parker@stjohns.edu).
In September, the department will host another outing at a premier Long Island golf destination, as the Red Storm will head to Sebonack on Tuesday, Sept. 29. A joint venture between 18-time major champion Jack Nicklaus and renowned golf course architect Tom Doak, Sebonack perennially ranks among the top venues in America and sits adjacent to Shinnecock Hills and National Golf Links on Peconic Bay in Southampton, completing one of the world's finest golf neighborhoods.
