Ed Kull Tabbed Chair of the BIG EAST’s Athletic Director Group for 2026-27 Academic Year

Kull appointed by colleagues to lead BIG EAST AD’s
NEW YORK – St. John's University Vice President and Director of Athletics Ed Kull was appointed chair of the BIG EAST's Athletic Director group for the upcoming 2026-27 academic year.
Kull will spearhead leadership efforts on behalf of the 11 member schools as the BIG EAST Conference continues to remain at the forefront of the ever-changing collegiate athletics landscape. Kull will serve his term for the duration of the 2026-27 academic year guiding the league as it navigates the operation of the post-House settlement, the current national legal landscape, revenue generation ideas and overall strategies to elevate the BIG EAST Conference.
Kull returned to Queens for his third stint as St. John's to take the reins of the Red Storm Athletic Department in October 2024. Over the last two years, the Long Island native has catapulted the Johnnies back into the national spotlight.
Kull had St. John's ahead of the curve in the revenue sharing era, launching the Red Storm Legacy Investment Fund last summer. Under his leadership, the Red Storm have cultivate numerous cutting-edge revenue generating projects and continue to grow in ticket sales, marketing and branding efforts, sponsorship and much more each year. St. John's posted its highest athletics fundraising total in University history this past year. Additionally, he negotiated a new apparel deal with global apparel juggernaut adidas for all 17 programs and expanded the Red Storm's long-standing partnership with Madison Square Garden. In June, Kull was tabbed to Silver Waves Media Top 100 Athletic Directors list.
On the field of competition, the Johnnies won five BIG EAST Regular Season and Tournament titles during the 2025-26 athletic year. Four teams qualified for the NCAA Tournament with the baseball program advancing to Super Regionals and men's basketball making its first Sweet 16 since 1999.
In the classroom, 14 St. John's athletics programs registered a GPA of 3.5 or higher. 71 percent of Red Storm student-athletes achieved a 3.5 or higher with 111 of them garnering a perfect 4.0 in either the fall or spring semester. Five St. John's programs won the BIG EAST Academic Team Excellence Award, given to the highest achieving team in each conference sponsored sport. The five honored program's were tied for the most in the BIG EAST and were the department's most since 2020.
Kull, 44, and his wife Sarah reside on Long Island with their two sons, Ben and Lukas.
