Travis Thompson scores first career goal at Wildcat Stadium

DURHAM, N.H. – St. John's men's soccer team dropped a road contest at New Hampshire on Thursday night, 2-1, at Wildcat Stadium.

After the Wildcats got on the board first, the Red Storm (1-1) responded just over a minute into the second half to equalize. UNH (2-1) tallied the eventual game-winner five minutes later despite the Johnnies leading in shots, 14-8, including 11 attempts in the latter 45 minutes.

In just his second collegiate appearance, junior Travis Thompson scored his first-ever goal to knot the score in the 46^th minute. Thompson, the Red Storm's fifth different goal scorer this season finished the cross to the back post from Andrew Porucznik. The sophomore midfielder has tallied a goal and an assist two games into the 2026 campaign.

Xavi Abeijon led all players with four shots in Durham. Luca Fargnoli tallied three strikes, while Thompson and Brage Birkelund Eie provided two attempts apiece.

After nearly 94 minutes of action without allowing a shot on target, the Wildcats got on the board in the 24^th minute, 1-0. Miguel Soto Gonzalez tallied the goal on assists from Xahvi DeRoza and Cabot McLaren.

The Red Storm controlled possession in the opening 45 minutes and tied with the Wildcats, in shots, 3-3, in the opening half.

In the second half, St. John's came out on the attack as Luca Fargnoli rang one off the post just 20 seconds into the latter stanza. After a Wildcats clearance, the Johnnies took possession and dialed the pressure right back up. Porucznik streaked down the right flank and delivered a cross to the back post. Thompson met the cross with a left-footed strike into the top of the net to bring the Red Storm level, 1-1, just 1:09 into the half.

The Wildcats retaliated quickly regaining the lead in the 54^th minute courtesy of a goal from Graham Dougald off the assist from Lukas Kuca. The Red Storm once again went in search of an equalizer. Fargnoli took a crack on net driven to the lower left corner that was steered away by the Wildcats goalkeeper Aaron Choi.

The Red Storm continued to search for game-tying goal delivering four more shots, including a pair of glancing headers from Abeijon. The Wildcats held on as the Red Storm suffered its first defeat of the season.

St. John's will return to Queens for its home opener on Tuesday night when it battles No. 13 Hofstra at 7 p.m. Admission is free for all fans and the game will be streamed on ESPN+.
