The Sunday Supper Raises $430,000 to Support Men’s Basketball Program

QUEENS, N.Y. – The Sunday Supper, the St. John's men's basketball program's annual fundraising event held before the start of the season, generated more than $430,000 in support of the Johnnies on Sunday, Sept. 20.
Held at Marina Del Rey in the Bronx, the event brought together St. John's alumni and supporters spanning eight different decades. The entire men's basketball team and coaching staff were in attendance, generating palpable excitement for the season ahead.
Attendees heard from St. John's President Rev. Brian Shanley, O.P., Vice President and Director of Athletics Ed Kull and Head Coach Rick Pitino. After introducing his team to the crowd of more than 300 supporters, Pitino conducted a question-and-answer session with FOX Sports analyst and St. John's radio voice Vin Parise, who served as the event's emcee.
The Red Storm enters the 2026-27 campaign having won back-to-back outright regular season and tournament titles in the BIG EAST, the only program in the 47-year history of the BIG EAST to accomplish the feat.
This past March, the Red Storm advanced to the second weekend of the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1999 after taking down Kansas in the round of 32.
Over the past two seasons, the Johnnies are 42-4 in games against BIG EAST opponents. The Red Storm and Duke are the only two high-major teams with regular season conference winning percentages of .900 or better over that span.
Madison Square Garden ticket plans are on sale now. The Red Storm will play 13 regular season games at The Mecca in 2026-27, the team's highest total since 1950-51.
The Red Storm will play three home exhibition contests before the start of the regular season, hosting Drexel on Oct. 14 at Carnesecca Arena before welcoming Rutgers (Oct. 18) and Texas (Oct. 25) to Madison Square Garden.
