St. John’s and Iona to Meet on Nov. 8 at Madison Square Garden

Red Storm and Gaels will tip off in Midtown for the second consecutive season
QUEENS, N.Y. – A date and location for this season's men's basketball game between St. John's and Iona have been finalized, as the two teams will face off on Sunday, Nov. 8, inside Madison Square Garden.
A tip-off time and television destination for this game will be released at a later date.
The Gaels and the Red Storm will meet inside The Mecca for the second straight season. Last year, the Johnnies took down Iona, 91-64, at The World's Most Famous Arena behind 19 points from Oziyah Sellers. Six Johnnies finished in double figures that day, including a 14-point, five-rebound, three-steal outing from Ian Jackson.
Head Coach Rick Pitino is no stranger to Iona, as the Hall of Famer led the Gaels for three seasons from 2020-23. During that span, Pitino guided the Gaels to two MAAC Regular Season Championships, two MAAC Tournament titles and a 64-22 overall record, including a 40-9 showing in conference play.
Nov. 8 will be the 12th meeting in a series that dates to December of 1946. St. John's currently owns an 8-3 record all-time against Iona and is on a two-game winning streak that began during the 2017-18 season.
With the formal announcement of the Iona game at Madison Square Garden, the Red Storm is now scheduled to host 13 regular season contests at The Mecca, the most for the program since 1950-51. Including the team's two exhibition games against Rutgers (Oct. 18) and Texas (Oct. 25), St. John's Men's Basketball will have 15 dates at MSG before the start of the BIG EAST Tournament. This season, the Red Storm will contest all its BIG EAST games at Madison Square Garden for the first time in program history.
Madison Square Garden ticket plans are on sale now. Individual game tickets for all MSG games will go on sale in mid-October. Full-season ticket packages including the Red Storm's games at Carnesecca Arena are sold-out.
Last season, the Red Storm swept the BIG EAST Regular Season and Tournament titles for the second straight year, becoming the first team in the 47-year history of the BIG EAST to accomplish the feat in back-to-back seasons. The Johnnies then advanced to the second weekend off the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1999 after defeating Kansas in the Round of 32.
