Solano Smith Named to BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll

The senior libero was recognized for her pair of performances to start league play
NEW YORK –St. John's Volleyball standout Rahanny Solano Smith was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for her performances over the weekend, the league office announced on Monday.
This is the third time the senior libero has appeared on the conference honor roll after being named the defensive player of the week on Sept. 7 and Sept. 21.
Solano Smith turned in a pair of quality performances during the first weekend of BIG EAST play. She recorded a league-best 44 digs in seven sets of work, leading the conference with 6.29 digs per frame.
Against the Pirates, the defensive maestro led all players with 17 digs in a 3-0 victory. Against No. 25 Creighton, she notched a match-best 27 digs, her best mark against the Bluejays over her Johnnie tenure and added three assists as the Johnnies went toe-to-toe with CU in four sets.
In the national ranks, Solano Smith leads the nation in digs (323) and digs per set (5.87). She is one of four players that have tallied 300 or more digs this season.
Solano Smith and the Red Storm will close out the longest homestand of the season with a pair of league matches this weekend. On Friday, St. John's welcomes Xavier for a 7 p.m. battle. The following day, the Johnnies will host Butler at 5 p.m.
