St. John’s Pushes Past Fordham on the Road, 3-0

Red Storm pick up its first road win of the season
BRONX, N.Y. – The Teacher prevails. St. John's Volleyball tallied its first road win of the 2026 season with a sweep at Fordham on Tuesday night.
Head Coach Joanne Persico picked up her first win against her former Associate Head Coach Bryan Weber. The set scores were 25-20, 25-22 and 25-19.
"It was so fun to see and compete against Coach Bryan tonight at the Rose Hill Gym and bring our 2023 BIG EAST Coaching Staff of the Year back together again," said Coach Persico. "I am super proud of my squad and staff for getting this road victory and our second sweep on the young season."
St. John's fired 39 kills as a team, with eight players contributing to the total. On the defensive side of the net, the Red Storm collected 36 digs and 8.0 total blocks to hold the Rams to a .169 hitting percentage over the three-set contest.
Lejla Hadziredzepovic led the team with nine kills and 3.5 total blocks. Both Carola Tesoro and Chloe Bell added seven kills, while Kendall White fired six. Amanda Caputi dished out 20 assists and Maggie Carcillo added 14, as both setters logged a pair of service aces. Rashanny Solano Smith recorded a match-high 14 digs.
Both teams wouldn't allow too large of a lead in the early going, playing to seven tied scores. St. John's jumped out to a four-point advantage at 16-12, holding firm halfway through. Fordham hung around and came within one tally at 21-20, but the Johnnies prevailed to take the opening set, 25-20.
Set two was considerably tighter throughout, with the Johnnies and Rams competing to 11 tied scores and five lead changes. Fordham took a two-point lead on a pair of errors by the St. John's offense to go up 21-19. The Red Storm responded, and it was Brooke Boyles who downed a ball to knot the contest at 21-21. A pair of blocks from Hadziredzepovic sealed the deal for the Johnnies at 25-22, taking a 2-0 lead.
Frame three began similarly to the first two, as both squads went back and forth. St. John's was able to use a 4-1 run to get ahead at 16-13. The Rams pulled within a point at 20-19, but the visitors ended the match with a 5-0 run to cap the set, 25-19, and the first road win of the season, 3-0.
St. John's will hit the road for the final time in the month of September, playing in the Iona Invitational. The Red Storm will face Central Connecticut on Friday before playing a pair of matches against NJIT and Iona on Saturday.
