Postgame Quotes vs. Florida State
St. John’s Head Coach Joe Tartamella, Alisha Kebbe and Kayla Charles spoke to the media after Sunday’s loss against Florida State, 57-53.
St. John's Head Coach Joe Tartamella...
Opening Remarks:
"Obviously, it was a slow game. We had a lot of difficulty gaining flow offensively, which we will certainly address moving forward. We came alive at the end but it was difficult for us to get out of the hole we were in. There was a segment late in the third and the beginning of the fourth where we gave away a few possessions and that didn't help us. Certainly happy with the fight we showed towards the end having an opportunity to put them back to the line. At the same time, there are certainly no moral victories and we need to play better."
On game tempo:
"No. I don't mind those types of [slow-paced] games if we are executing, playing at a pace and at a level of mental playing where we can sustain it. We have to figure out some things offensively, we haven't hit shots. We had good shots, and I think we had bad shots at times and we just didn't convert. I thought we were ahead for three quarters, especially at halftime. Certainly, we put ourselves in a position to win the game, we just have to be able to execute. Some of our players have struggled in some of the games, whether it is youth or veteran. We need to be able to execute on a more consistent basis and we will be in good shape. Certainly, every game is different, every matchup is different, but we didn't come through today."
Junior guard Alisha Kebbe...
On Kayla Charles:
"I think that she did a really good job today. She saw an opportunity to get better. The fact that she comes off the bench and has this opportunity to prove herself on the court, I think she did that today."
On critical shots:
"They call for me because I practice those [corner three-pointers] every day after practice."
On playing long guards:
"It was a little difficult to start but by the second half, I decided to pump fake more, or use the screen to get myself open."
Sophomore forward Kayla Charles...
On preparation and balancing game flow:
"I just kept reminding myself that my team is going to need me and can't afford to not have me on the floor."
