Dance Team to Compete at Nationals Jan. 16, 2004 Jamaica, N.Y.- The St. John's University Dance Team will travel to Orlando, Fl. today to participate in the 2004 Dance Team National Championship this weekend. St. John's will compete in the Division I category against such rivals as Hofstra, University of Delaware, Cal-State Fullerton, Sam Houston State, Boston University and Fordham. The team hopes for a top ten finish this year after placing 13th in 2003. The St. John's University Dance Team has been in existence for over 40 years, and is rich in tradition and pride. Every year 15 to 20 young ladies with diverse dance backgrounds, perform during time-outs and halftime of all home basketball and soccer games. In addition, the Dance Team has also made appearances at other sports events. While a major part of their season is spent supporting the varsity Red Storm sports, the Dance Team competes annually and is currently ranked 13th in the country amongst division I squads. The 2004 College Cheerleading and Dance Team National Championship, administered by Universal Cheerleaders Association and Universal Dance Association, will take place January 16-18 at the Walt Disney World, Resort in Orlando, Florida. For the 22nd year, this competition will recognize the country's best all-around college cheerleading and dance teams. The dance championship will consist of 75 teams competing in three divisions derived from their NCAA classification. |
