Sokolowski and Cox Qualify for NCAA Postgraduate Scholarships March 23, 2004 Jamaica, N.Y.- St. John's University student athletes Pawel Sokolowski (Szczecin, Poland) and Matthew Cox (Flourtown, Pa.) were recently announced as finalists for the NCAA Postgraduate scholarship that is awarded to student-athletes who excel academically and athletically and who are in their last year of intercollegiate athletics competition. The NCAA awards up to 174 postgraduate scholarships annually, 87 (29 scholarships) for men and 87 (29 scholarships) for women, in each of the three sport seasons. Sokolowski has lead the Red Storm men's swimming team to much success over the past four years. Sokolowski was the 2004 BIG EAST Champion in the 200-yard freestyle and won the 100-yard freestyle at the 2004 ECAC Championships. Sokolowski has also broke several St. John's swimming records and was a member of the 800 free-relay that captured the BIG EAST title in 2003. Cox is a four-year letter-winner on the St.John's men's fencing team. Cox helped guide the Red Storm to its first NCAA Championship title in 2003. |
