St. John's Athletics Mourns Passing of Football Coach Ernest Owusu Dec. 1, 2003 JAMAICA, N.Y. - The St. John's Department of Athletics mourns the passing of former assistant football coach Ernest Owusu, who passed away last week after a lengthy illness. Owusu served as an assistant football coach for the Red Storm program for eight years under former head coach Bob Ricca, tutoring wide receivers his last three years. Owusu earned a bachelor of arts in liberal arts from Stony Brook in 1992, and then earned a master's degree from the school in 1993. He was a wide receiver for the Seawolves during his undergraduate years, and then worked as the quarterbacks coach there for two years. He was employed full-time as a social studies teacher at Francis Lewis High School in Queens. Ernie and his wife, Candice, have a son, Kwame (8) and a daughter, Iris (5). The wake for Ernest will be at Fox Funeral Home, 98-07 Ascan Avenue in Forest Hills, New York on Monday, December 1 from 2-5 p.m. and again on Tuesday, December 2 from 7-9 p.m. A mass will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Chapel on the campus of St. John's University at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, December 3. |
