Jackie Smith is in her second season as the Director of Women?s Basketball Operations at St. John?s University.
Smith made the move to the BIG EAST last season after serving as an assistant coach under Barnes Arico for the past two seasons at Adelphi University.
Head coach Kim Barnes Arico believes, ?Jackie brings indispensable on and off the court experience to her new role. Through her work in the business world and her time as an assistant coach, Jackie developed important skills which will help this program succeed.?
While at Adelphi, Smith assisted with recruitment process, organized tape exchange, developed preseason and postseason individual workouts and aided with daily practice and game strategies.
Prior to her stint in Garden City, Smith was an assistant coach at Nassau Community College from 1999-2000. At Nassau, she worked with the post players on strengthening both offensive and defensive moves.
As director of basketball operations for the Red Storm, Smith will serve as the team travel coordinator, while also managing community service and scheduling.
Smith spent two seasons playing at Nassau, where she was named to the Junior College All-America second team in 1996. After completion of her associate?s degree from Nassau, Smith continued her career at Division II LIU Southampton College. Over two seasons she averaged a rebound every three minutes for the Lady Colonials.
Upon graduation from Southampton in 1998, Smith worked as a sales and marketing assistant for Action Labs, working on new product launching in the health industry. Smith left Action Labs to return to the academic arena, serving as a teaching assistant.
Since 2000 Smith has been a WNBA bench assistant for the New York Liberty. She manages the bench during the game and assists with player workouts before the game. In 2001, Smith trained and prepared students for the Empire State Games for Physically Challenged.
Smith, a native of Freeport, New York, earned a master of arts in physical education from Adelphi in January 2002.
