Postgame Quotes: St. John's vs. DePaul
Red Storm falls to DePaul, 70-62
Head Coach Joe Tartamella
Opening Statement…
“I thought we battled. We dug ourselves out of a hole but then did a great job of fighting back. I told them in the locker room, I thought we had a chance to be where we wanted to be especially late in the game. We just weren’t able to finish tonight. I was pleased with the way we fought, I thought we had some slippage, due to whatever that could be. Certainly a game I felt we had a chance to win and hopefully we’ll grow off of over these next three games before the conference tournament.”
On Tiana England…
“Tiana’s [England] extremely talented. Just from watching her since she’s been in high school, the way that she can play with that pace and be under control at the same time is certainly something that’s impressive to watch. Her ability to score is now starting come out so I think people are noticing it a little bit more now, but she could always score the ball.”
On how he feels heading into the postseason…
“You have the whole season to look at, too. You try and take it all into account. We feel good about how we’re playing. We feel good about what we can do. We’ve got to be smart about how we’re doing things. We believe we’re going to win every game. It’s never a concern. I have no worries about who we have to play but we still have to put in the time and effort and then be able to show up and execute.”
Sophomore guard Qadashah Hoppie
On playing against tough competition…
“All year, we know we have it in us. We’ve fallen short a couple of times, we never doubted ourselves. All the close-pointed losses, we always know it’s in us. We just come out with the same confidence in every game and play our game.”
On Tiana England…
“She’s a great teammate [Tiana England]. She’s our point guard. She’s the one that makes us go round most of the time. When she’s on her game, it brings us all together and we have the best game we can have.”
Senior forward Curteeona Brelove
On takeaways from the past two games…
“Going forward we just have to look at both games and look at the things we were strong at and look at the things we could work on. We just have to lock in and make sure that each game we do what we have to do and make sure it carries over from here on out.
On what’s changed over the past few games…
“We played together. We made sure we kept our heads in the game. We didn’t get down ourselves. We just made sure we talked it up and stuck to the things that coach talks about every day.”
On Tiana England…
“As a teammate and a leader, Tiana [England] is great. She’s our motor. She keeps us going. Whether it’s verbally or non-verbal, she always lifts us up as well as we lift her up.”
