St. John’s Head Coach Joe Tartamella
Opening statement…
“I’m pleased to get the another win, first win at home and third in the BIG EAST. We have started to move in the right direction and we know we have another difficult task on Sunday, but to come out in the second half and go 17-11 in the third, I thought we did a good job and hung on in the end.”
On Alisha Kebbe…
“I’m really pleased to see how Alisha came out today and had a double-double. That’s what she can really do. She has battled some things for us and I’m really proud of the way she played today in the minutes she gave us.”
On depth…
“Q [Qadashah Hoppie] has been very consistent for us. I thought a lot of people stepped up. Alissa Alston, and Raven Farley is starting to get her feet under her. Even when certain players are not playing well, I think we’ve been able to, now with the depth we have, give others opportunities to step up.”
On defensive effort…
“I thought we did a fairly good job. To have two back-to-back games, where I think we have had good defensive efforts, especially coming out of the half, I am very pleased with that. They were locked in.”
On defensive effort…
“I was pleased to see 23 second-chance points to seven. Usually it’s been the other way for us. The defensive effort from us has been better.”
On opening conference play 3-0…
“When you have the opportunity to go out on the floor, no matter who you are playing, you want to win. We take every challenge and every game we are approaching with that mindset.”
St. John’s junior guard Qadashah Hoppie
On consistent performances…
“It’s about taking the right shots. My teammates have been finding me in the right spots and we have been running the offense pretty well, transition has been going really well and everyone is finding me in the right places.”
On team’s defensive performance…
“We did pretty well today. We didn’t start off as well in ball screens, but as soon as we made an adjustment, we ended up closing the game very well. We know that’s going to be big for us on Sunday.”
On Alisha Kebbe…
“Energy. She starts it off for us. When she brings that energy on defense, everybody starts going and it turns into this big lead or run that we start and it usually starts with her energy.”
St. John’s senior guard Alisha Kebbe
On her performance this evening...
“It’s very encouraging because I struggled early on and my teammates kept on pushing me saying, ‘keep shooting and it will fall'. I’m excited and I am going to keep being aggressive.”
