POSTGAME QUOTES: St. John’s vs. Marquette
St. John’s Head Coach Joe Tartamella spoke with the media after Sunday’s, 67-57, loss to Marquette
St. John’s Head Coach Joe Tartamella
Opening statement…
“I just thought we never really found our way in the game. Obviously the third quarter hurt us in the way we came out. It’s a tough weekend to lose at home, especially at the juncture of the season. We’ve got to get better and have to try to finish strong. Marquette played better than us today and deserved to win the game."
On holding Marquette’s Selena Lott to just four points…
“If you told us we’d probably hold her to four I think we’d be in good shape to win the game, but we were let down there. She had fouls in the first half that limited her time. Obviously, they didn’t need her.”
On seeing different things in Marquette’s defense from last matchup…
“They did everything they usually do. They were aggressive. We didn’t make shots, we didn’t make good reads and we played a little hesitant. They didn’t make any threes, we made six. You feel good there, but when you give up 44 points in the paint, it’s a problem."
On bouncing back from these setbacks to get ready for the final two-game road stretch…
“Hopefully the road will help us lock in and focus. We have been in situations like this before, but this team certainly has the capability of playing against anybody. We haven’t done that in the last two which is frustrating. We have to continue to prepare the way that we need to. If we don’t prepare the right way and we are not focused, locked in, and showing a willingness to make sure we are understanding of what we are going over, then you are going to have these kinds of results against teams that are good.”
