Opening Statement…
“I thought we played a really great first half as far as how hard we played and the toughness level we showed. Obviously there are areas that a team like DePaul feasts on and I thought we did a good job curtailing those areas in the first half and the second half obviously we didn’t dictate that. In a way it was probably the beginning of the third where we had some slippage and obviously they went on that little 11-0 spurt that I thought broke our back a little bit. When you don’t rebound the ball when you need to against a team that feasts off that, it’s gonna be hard to win. So I thought we got a little stagnant offensively in there second half, a little hesitant, and so it cost us in some of our decision making. As I told our group, obviously we competed I thought throughout. I thought we needed to be tougher though in the second half and I thought the first half was indicative of how we wanna play and the second half really wasn’t.”
On the second half…
“They [DePaul] do a great job and they usually resort to the zone when there’s nothing else to go to, and they did that today well. We didn’t adjust well enough to it. It’s been a little bit of an issue for us some games. Other games, we’ve done well with it. It goes back to whether they’re in their zone, are we taking unguarded shots, are we making the right cuts, are we taking shots that are gonna allow us to get in better transition defense positions. When you don’t do that, it becomes really hard. They did a good job of kind of changing the pace on us a little bit. We did not handle it the way we would have hoped to. When you don’t react correctly, you start to question things a little but we were just hesitant on the way that we’re playing with their pace. I think obviously credit to them in making that change, but at times I think we just do it to ourselves in the way that we’re playing.”
On Danielle Cosgrove playing three minutes in the fourth quarter…
“I don’t think anybody did a good job inside the zone today so it didn’t really matter who was there. I just didn’t think we were moving the ball well enough. Honestly, if we’re playing the right way, we’ve got the ball popping and you’ve got either people in the right spots spacing-wise. I don’t know if it was singularly on Cosgrove but I thought as a unit we just didn’t do a great job. So whoever was in that time, it didn’t really click for us. So I thought DC [Danielle Cosgrove] gave us good minutes at times and other times struggled.”
