Opening statement...
“I thought we really set the tone in the first half. Defensively, it was our best half in how we played. When you look at our rebounding, we haven’t had this many rebounds in a game all year. I thought Danielle [Patterson] set the tone right away with being able to block out on [Jillian] Archer. I’m proud of our group for how they played. We could have been better in the third, but I thought we closed really well. We shared the ball, 22 assists. This is the way we want to play and the way that we’re capable of playing. This finishes off a run of however many games in however many days, so these guys need a little bit of a break, and they’ll get one.
On the defensive effort…
“I think we were locked in, and we’ve got Leilani [Correa] guarding the way she did early. I think Camree [Clegg] did a good job of pressuring the ball, but our bigs didn’t allow anybody to get touches. I think we held number 23 [Milan Bolden-Morris] to no points in the first half. That’s their guy. I thought Leilani did an incredible job of taking her away. She did a great job on the defensive. I thought our pressure was where we needed it to be. When we can play with that type of confidence on the defensive end, it really allows us to wreak some havoc. We made the game a half-court game for them on offense in the first half, and it was a run-out game on the other end because we were getting stops. It allowed us to play the way we’re capable of.”
Graduate student forward Danielle Patterson…
On her offensive prowess in this evening’s dominant win at Carnesecca Arena…
“I tried to let my defense roll over into my offense. Like Coach [Joe Tartamella] said and play well on [Jillian] Archer. That was leading to run outs for me. My teammates were finding me, and I was just trying to get them their assists.”
On the team’s momentum riding a three-game winning streak…
“I think it gives us a lot of confidence. We know how good we can be, we get in our own way sometimes with that. We [need] to keep the ball rolling and get back in the gym and keep working hard. I think we have so many levels we can reach.”
