Postgame Quotes: St. John's Women's Basketball vs. Villanova
St. John’s Head Coach Joe Tartamella
Opening statement...
“Villanova played a great game today, obviously a disappointing performance for us. We lacked energy from the start and it was tough to get our footing. They were tougher than us today in pretty much every category. We’ve had a tough couple of weeks with [quick] turnarounds. We apparently weren’t able to get ourselves ready to play today. We have to turn around now and get ready for Sunday. Disappointing performance to be at home and play the way we did.”
On the play of Villanova’s star Maddy Siegrist…
“Listen, she does a great job, she’s long, she’s hard to guard, she plays hard on every possession and never gives up. We have to be as relentless as her if we’re going to be able to slow her down… She sets the tone for them and we didn’t match that.”
On how the team will shifts its focus with a two-game road swing pending…
“We kind of just have to flush it [the loss] and be able to get ready tomorrow, we’ve been fairly good at that this year being able to turn the page. We have a lot of things we have to look at again. We are playing a team we just played at their place… We play on Sunday then stay out there and play again on Wednesday. We just have to put this one behind us and focus on the next game.”
