St. John’s Head Coach Joe Tartamella
Opening statement…
“I’m really proud of our group and the resiliency that they had. I was really proud of, coming off the game we had on Saturday, our poise and control. We showed some growth from the other day. I can’t overstate how important this was for us. We weren’t perfect, but I just enjoyed being in the huddles with these guys. The huddles were alive again today, and that’s when I felt really good about where we were going to be. I’m really proud of Danielle Patterson. I thought she took the game over for us. She made big shots and plays. Now, we turn again and get ready for the next one.”
On the message to the team heading into tonight’s game…
“We haven’t changed how we’ve prepared. I thought we played pretty well against a team that is very good in UConn, even though the score doesn’t indicate that. I thought we had some good moments in that game. The other day [against Villanova] was one of the most difficult games that I have ever been a part of. However, it was a test for us and a challenge for our group to get better. The one thing I’ve said is that these guys show up to practice and are ready to go. It’s given me fulfillment. I don’t want to fail them, and I know they don’t want to fail us.”
On defending Chloe Morotta and Jordan King…
“You’re not going to stop them, but we were hoping to limit them. They did a great job of trying to will their team to a win. I think we did a poor job, at times in transition, of losing them, and they were able to get open. We knew they were going to have to win the game for them, and they almost did. I thought, as a group, we were able to overcome it.”
Redshirt senior guard Kadaja Bailey
On her mindset after tying for the team-lead with 18 points …
“It starts with pace. I just focus and the right and open shot. Having that mindset of sharing the ball and finding the open player.”
Graduate student forward Danielle Patterson
On the team’s message throughout the game…
“It’s not about me, it’s about this team. All week we have been talking about bouncing back after the last game, and I knew I just and to step up today so that we could get a win.
On how competing with Rayven Peeples and Jillian Archer helps build her as a player…
“They are very competitive. I think we come in every day with the mentality of making each other better in both workouts and or whether it’s on the court during practice with the guys that help during practice.”
