St. John’s Head Coach Mike Anderson
Opening Statement…
“Obviously, we are disappointed with the outcome. At the same time, Xavier is a good basketball team, and they did what they were supposed to do. They took care of their home court. They shot the ball well, and they did a lot of good things. For us, I thought our defense was step slow in terms of getting to the spots we needed to. At the same time, I thought our guys didn’t quit. Our guys continued to fight. I was proud of the effort from that standpoint.”
On playing Xavier…
“I think they do a good job of knocking shots down. It’s a team that won the NIT last year, and then they added [Souley] Boum, who is a really good player. They are connected in what they do offensively, and defensively, they did some good things. They’re an efficient basketball team. [Jack] Nunge can shoot the ball. Colby [Jones] can shoot it and is playing at a high level, and we all know what [Adam] Kunkel is capable of doing. They do a good job of sharing the ball.”
