ST. JOHN’S WOMEN’S BASKETBALL VS. YALE POSTGAME QUOTES
St. John’s Women’s Basketball Head Coach Joe Tartamella and junior guard Beautiful Waheed spoke to the media following the Red Storm’s 88-60 victory over Yale.
Head Coach Joe Tartamella
Opening statement…
“I thought our game was, from an offensive standpoint, our best performance in terms of being able to score. We felt pretty good about our ability to score, but we haven’t played as well in the last few games offensively. I was pleased to see that we’re a little more organized. We still need to continue getting better in a lot of areas, but how we came today, I thought we started the game great.”
On the Red Storm’s fast start…
“I thought our defensive energy was great. We shell shocked them there for a couple of minutes.”
On improved interior offense…
“We attacked the basketball. 50 points in the paint obviously is a great number for us, especially when we’ve been struggling to score 50 in a game..”
On converting defense to offense…
“28 points off turnovers obviously helped us get to the level of scoring we got to today.”
On facing No. 20 Oklahoma State…
“They’re a high-octane team. We’ll have to be on point. It’ll be a great test for us.”
On Shaulana Wagner…
“[Shaulana Wagner] did a great job. She had eight assists and no turnovers. She was able to pick people apart.”
On what still needs work…
“The massive piece for us will be rebounding and the free-throw line if we really want to be able to beat some of these echelon teams.”
Junior guard Beautiful Waheed
On posting double-digits in the scoring column of back-to-back games…
“I just put the work in at practice. I work on my jump shot, and my team made sure to find me so that I can get those shots off.”
