ST. JOHN’S VS. LE MOYNE POSTGAME QUOTES
St. John’s Women’s Basketball Head Coach Joe Tartamella, redshirt junior forward Daniela Abies and junior guard Brooke Moore spoke to the media following the Red Storm’s 68-53 victory over Le Moyne.
Head Coach Joe Tartamella
Opening statement…
“Obviously it’s good to get a win. There’s still much to work on, but it was good to put the jerseys on for the first time and get past that part. I thought there were good moments in the game. Janeya [Grant] did a good job opening up the game, and Brooke [Moore] and Daniela [Abies] gave us the spark and energy we needed to prevail in this one. I’m proud of them, but there’s a lot to work on.”
On Daniela Abies…
She’s always had great energy. I think this was her best performance so far, especially in terms of rebounding and efficiency. She’s finally healthy, and I’m happy for her.”
On Brooke Moore…
“Brooke is an interesting player. This is what I expected from her. She’s long, physical and versatile. I’ve asked her to be a spark off the bench, though she’s definitely capable of starting.”
On ensuring growth moving forward…
“I thought we did some good things, but there’s still a lot to clean up. I liked our push at the end of the third quarter, and we had 17 assists, which is great to see. We probably would’ve had even more if we made a few more shots.”
Redshirt junior forward Daniela Abies
On providing energy off the bench…
“We’ve been working on this the last couple of months. Coming off the bench, it’s important for us to bring energy and make sure we’re good on both ends of the floor. That’s been our main focus.”
On what changed in the second quarter…
“We were just bringing energy. Talking, communicating on the court, running our lanes and playing the way we know we can.”
Junior guard Brooke Moore
On her St. John’s debut…
“I was excited to play at St. John’s, especially for opening night. I just want to play my game, play with my teammates and have fun out there. Everything else would fall into place after that.”
On the team’s defensive success…
“Coach [Tartamella] emphasizes having pressure on the ball every day in practice. I think the biggest thing for us was getting them uncomfortable and out of what they usually do.”
