ST. JOHN’S VS. PROVIDENCE QUOTES
St. John’s Women’s Basketball Head Coach Joe Tartamella, graduate guard Shaulana Wagner and junior guard Brooke Moore spoke to the media after defeating Providence, 62-55, at Carnesecca Arena
Head Coach Joe Tartamella
Opening statement…
“I thought we had a great finish to the game. We finally found our legs and our energy level. We don’t have the ability to endure the slippage we’ve had in the last game or two. I think we’re starting to figure it out a little bit more. We got a second to take a breath and enjoy getting our first BIG EAST win of the season and protecting our home floor. We’ve got to get ready for another tough game on the road, where we’ve got three games in six days.”
On finishing strong…
“That game could’ve gotten away from us in a number of moments. I was really proud of how they finished.”
On late-game execution…
“We felt our pressure grinded them down enough where they got a little fatigued. Our communication was better, and we rebounded the ball a little bit better.”
On players being ready when called upon…
“Anybody in that locker room may have to step up at any time, whether they played five minutes, 10 minutes or zero minutes.”
Graduate guard Shaulana Wagner
On her floor vision…
“I used to play football. I was a quarterback, so I really have fun passing the ball. I see the spots that defenders don’t really see or think about. It’s part of my game. I’m just going to have fun doing it.”
Junior guard Brooke Moore
On the team’s mentality while trailing…
“That’s just the character of our team. We’re competitors and we’re never going to give up. We started off slow in the first half, but we picked it up in the second, especially in that fourth quarter.”
