POSTGAME QUOTES: ST. JOHN’S WOMEN’S BASKETBALL AT SETON HALL
St. John’s Women’s Basketball Head Coach Joe Tartamella and redshirt junior forward Daniela Abies spoke to the media following the Red Storm’s 59-56 win over Seton Hall.
Head Coach Joe Tartamella
Opening statement…
“If you check my WHOOP right now, I’m probably in a bad spot. [My heart rate and blood pressure] is probably going to be high. But, what a game. Our kids battled. We grinded, man. They all played their hearts out tonight. This is probably one of our better [wins] all year.”
On Daniela Abies…
“She’s our warrior. [I’m] just really proud of her. A lot of these kids have put in a lot of time at the places they're at, including our own. I’m just glad and happy about how we played with some adversity.”
On facing No. 1/1 UConn next…
“[We’ll] get a special opportunity at St. John’s, playing at Madison Square Garden. There’s nothing like it, no matter who you’re playing, and obviously, we’re playing the best team in the country. I’m going to enjoy this one before I have to look forward. But, this is something to build on.”
Redshirt Junior Forward Daniela Abies...
On how the team pulled off the win…
“I feel like the first five minutes were really important. We just stayed down this whole game. We knew [Seton Hall] was a tough team in our conference, and we were just able to control the boards, be locked in on defense and get the job done.”
On her 19-rebound performance…
“I feel like that’s my job, so I’m just going to make sure I help my team. I just took advantage of every possession.”
