POSTGAME QUOTES: ST. JOHN’S WOMEN’S BASKETBALL VS. SETON HALL
St. John’s Women’s Basketball Head Coach Joe Tartamella and forwards Sa’Mya Wyatt and Daniela Abies met with the media after to the Red Storm’s 67-61 win over Seton Hall at Carnesecca Arena
Head Coach Joe Tartamella
Opening statement…
“A great game for us. I thought we played as tough as we've played all year and trying to overcome a number of turnovers there. But I thought, in terms of the glass and how we played, we shot it really well today, which is a huge factor. I thought our defense was strong enough, especially through the first three quarters. NuNu [Sa’Mya Wyatt] showed what she's capable of in terms of how she can play on both ends of the floor. Dani [Daniela Abies] again, great energy. And so it's a big one for us in terms of just keeping it moving for us in the win column.”
On turning up the energy in the second half …
“I think they were locked in this morning. I felt pretty good. We typically have different types of shootarounds, and I thought they were very locked in this morning. So I felt pretty good in terms of where their minds were. And I thought even coming into the half, we got a little frustrated, but we started the game, I mean, it could have gotten out of hand quick, and I thought we really righted ourselves. Janeya [Grant] gave us some good buckets, and we kind of dug in defensively, which I thought helped.”
Redshirt Junior Forward Daniela Abies...
On how this win motivates the locker room…
“I think we know it's one of the top teams in the conference, and it was a very important game for us to win and get back on track. That's important for us to keep building. We have two more games next week… That was a good game and a good win, and I'm proud of us for what we did today.”
Sophomore Forward Sa'Mya Wyatt…
On playing consistently…
“Just staying aggressive, even after I missed shots. I feel like I just had to continue to stay focused and just finish the shot. ”
