POSTGAME QUOTES: NCAA TOURNAMENT SUPER REGIONALS ST. JOHN’S AT NO. 7 ALABAMA
St. John’s Baseball Head Coach Mike Hampton and redshirt sophomore catcher Adam Agresti spoke with the media after the Red Storms 8-0 loss to No. 7 Alabama at Sewell-Thomas Stadium in the Tuscaloosa Super Regional
Head Coach Mike Hampton
Opening Statement…
“Not a very good game by the Johnnies today. Don’t want to take anything away from Tyler Fay, he threw a heck of a game. I thought our approach offensively was not what our gameplan was. He threw well and we didn’t make adjustments to it. We made a couple of errors, which I thought hurt us. We’ve got to play better baseball, that was just not what we usually do.”
On the record-setting crowd playing a factor…
“The fans were great, there was a lot of people here. Did it affect our guys? I don’t think so, to be honest with you. We had a lot of fans down in Tallahassee. I just think that we didn’t play, well. I don’t want to take anything away from [Tyler] Fay, but we didn’t play our game today.”
On the wind keeping balls in the park…
“Yes, the wind was blowing in, there were some balls that they [Alabama] hit and held up. The balls that we hit also held up. Got to work with the elements all the time and even when they did get some hits they squirted some through the infield and got on top of balls. We hit some balls that I think we should’ve gotten on top of and driven balls that we popped up.”
On what the team can take with them from this game into tomorrow…
“I told the guys, I don’t want to be done tomorrow. This is postseason baseball, you have to have a short memory. I feel like we can just go out there and play our game. I didn’t think we played well at all today, but they [Alabama] had some timely hits and we didn’t. We had the bases loaded with no outs, we got runners over and didn’t get them in. All it takes is just one little productive at bat and maybe the tide turns, but we didn’t have that.”
Redshirt Sophomore Catcher Adam Agresti
On his approach at the plate…
“Yes, I was just staying ready for the heater, I had some good takes up there and was trying to stay patient at the plate and trust the guys behind me. I think overall we weren’t on the fastball too much tonight.”
