Head Coach Mike Hampton
Opening Statement…
“Really hard to express the work that these guys put in. My coaches, the players, obviously, the support staff, our alums, one of the best alumni groups, I feel, in the country. They're always watching and that's why when we get to remind them what St. John's baseball is all about. It's very tough, obviously, in the locker room any time after you lose. But the effort, the camaraderie, they're going to have it for the rest of their lives and I couldn't be more proud of them.”
On conversations during the rain delay…
“Let's keep playing, we've been through this before. I mean, in our conference tournament we had a ton of rain. We played our championship game in the, at 9 a.m. and had batting practice at 6:35 a.m. . Down in Tallahassee, had a ton of rain there and we got delayed.”
On what he’s going to remember most about this team…
“The adversity that they went through. I can stay here and I can give you an hour worth of travel issues that we've had. We flew out of Arlington, and we were a half hour out from LaGuardia, and then got diverted to [Washington] D.C., because of, if you remember the plane crashed into the into the truck. My whole team slept in the D.C. airport and then got up at 6 a.m. and drove a bus back home. We were down in Arizona State, and we were about to leave there and we got snowed out back home. Just the adversity that these guys have been through and pushed through and were successful through is unbelievable and I hope they remember that for the rest of their lives.”
