In 2007, Vaksman helped the junior national team compete in the Junior World Championships in Turkey and made an appearance in the 2008 Championships in Italy.
With more than 25 years of fencing experience, Vaksman has brought a wealth of knowledge to the Red Storm. Other championship titles he has won include award-winning performances at the Socialist Republics, Moscow World Cup and Talin World Cup.
During the mid-1980s, Vaksman made the shift to coaching. He served as coach of the Pentathlon team in the Ukraine beginning in 1986 before moving to New York City in 1989. After moving to the U.S., Vaksman took a coaching position with the Sal Bardak fencing club in New York. Currently, he splits his time between St. John's and as the epee coach for the New York Fencers Athletic Club and the U.S. National Junior Men's Epee team.
