St. John’s Opens 2025 Campaign with Strong Showing at the Shark Tank Challenge

The Red Storm racked up a 6-2 combined mark on Sunday
BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The St. John's men's and women's fencing teams turned in strong performances at the LIU Shark Tank Challenge on Sunday in Brooklyn, N.Y., combining for a 6-2 record against NYU, LIU, Yale and Wagner.
In men's saber, freshman Vlad Covaliu led the way with an impressive 11-1 performance, while sophomore Darii Lukashenko added a strong 10-2 mark. In men's foil, sophomore Jan Nowak paced the Johnnies at 7-4, and junior Igor Wozniak followed closely at 6-5. Sophomore Samuel Imrek guided the men's epee squad with a 10-2 showing, while sophomore captain Daniil Mazur finished 8-4.
On the women's side, senior captain Malwina Kolodziejczyk and senior Antonina Lachman headlined women's foil with matching 10-2 records. In women's saber, sophomore Salome Berger posted a 9-2 outing, while junior Catinca Dumitru added a dominant 7-1 effort. Sophomore Nicole Feygin powered the women's epee group, finishing a perfect 12-0, while senior Anastasiia Kudierova and junior Eva Galper each went 4-3.
St. John's returns to action on Dec. 8 in Waltham, Mass., for the Carla-Mae Richards Invitational hosted by Brandeis University.
