On Sealy: A long, rangy, developing walk-on post player ... a big-man who contributes length, size and shot-blocking to the squad ... adds depth to the Red Storm frontcourt ... displays tremendous hustle, work ethic and unselfishness in St. John[apos]s practices.
Steve Lavin On Sealy: 'Sam has size and length to help our frontcourt get better each day in practice. He continues to add strength and gain a better sense for what it takes to compete at the highest levels of college basketball.'
As A Freshman In 2011-12: Appeared in four games in his inaugural season after earning a spot at walk-on tryouts ... totaled six minutes of action and averaged 1.5 minutes per outing ... grabbed one rebound in two minutes vs. Cincinnati (Feb. 8) ... also fired his first-career attempts from the free throw line vs. the Bearcats ... appeared for two minutes in a BIG EAST contest at Seton Hall (Feb. 14) ...
made his career debut with a two-minute stint in an 82-59 victory over UMBC (Nov. 13).
At Longwood: Played three years of varsity basketball for Longwood in Middle Island, Long Island, N.Y. ... led the Lions to a three-year combined record of 56-6 ... averaged 7.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.5 blocked shots per outing as a senior.

Since coming to St. John[apos]s I[apos]ve learned: Leadership is an important trait in the real world.
Greatest athletic accomplishment: Dunking on someone in a home game in high school.
Hero/Role model: My older brother Ernest James.
Favorite athlete/sports team: Kevin Durant and the Oklahoma Thunder.
Funny/favorite basketball story: In high school, my teammates were all showing how high they can jump by touching the rim. I joined the contest but tried to show off by jumping in my socks, only to slip backwards and embarrass myself.
I came to St. John[apos]s because: I enjoyed the atmosphere and campus when I visited.
The best thing about St. John[apos]s is: The location.
One word to describe me on the court: 'Energetic.'
One word to describe me off the court: 'Laid-back.'
