A former All-BIG EAST First Team center back for the Red Storm, Bjorn Nikolajewski joined the St. John's men's soccer coaching staff in the summer of 2026 in the role of volunteer assistant coach.
Nikolajewski, a native of Berlin, Germany spent three seasons with the Red Storm from 2023-25 after beginning his collegiate career with UConn in 2021-22. The defender started in 58 of his 60 career matches, totaling 5,168 minutes.
During his final season in Queens in 2025, Nikolajewski was a College Sports Communicators (CSC) First Team Academic All-American. Additionally, he was an All-BIG EAST First Team selection and an All-ECAC First Team selection after leading the Johnnies back to the NCAA Tournament. After missing the beginning of the season due to injury, the graduate student started in 12 matches, totaling 1,040 of 1,084 possible minutes. The team captain scored four goals and went 2-for-2 from the penalty spot during his final collegiate campaign.
In 2024, Nikolajewski started all 19 matches on the Red Storm backline leading the Johnnies to a Co-BIG EAST East Division title. The defenseman played a full 90 minutes in 17 of his 19 appearances and logged an assist against Butler on Oct. 4. He was presented with the Dr. Peter Vitulli Award at the St. John's Athletic Awards banquet after returning from an injury. During his first year at St. John's, Nikolajewski missed the entire season due to injury.
Nikolajewski began his career at UConn, where he spent two seasons in 2021-22. During his time in Storrs, the Germany native appeared in 29 games and recorded four assists.
In addition to his playing experience, Nikolajewski spent the summer of 2026 interning at the FIFA World Cup's New York/ New Jersey site.
Nikolajewski graduated from St. John's with a bachelor's degree in sports management and a perfect 4.0 GPA in December 2025.
