As a Graduate Student (Fall 2021)
Made 14 appearances, 12 of which were starts, for a Red Storm squad that went 11-6-3, finished third in the BIG EAST and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament… missed six games and was limited in others with injury… helped the Johnnies register the nation’s best shutout percentage (0.60) and fifth-best team goals against average (0.63)… recorded 90 minutes or more in five separate appearances… took three shots.
As A Senior (Spring 2021)
Played and started in nine matches for the Red Storm… a defensive stalwart who helped the Johnnies record four shutouts and compile a 0.89 goals against average on the season… logged the full 90 minutes in six of his nine appearances… missed the Red Storm’s loss to Villanova on March 6, the Johnnies’ only loss of the season against a team that did not advance to the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Tournament.
As a Junior (2019)
Played and started in all 20 matches for the nationally-seeded Red Storm… helped the Johnnies reach the NCAA Tournament Round of 16 for the 12th time in program history… named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 30 and earned a weekly honor roll spot on Oct. 7... scored one goal, a game-winner and an absolute rocket from just outside the box, at Marquette (Oct. 4)… tallied an assist on the game-winner in the team’s next match against Temple (Oct. 8)… played a key role in a St. John’s defensive unit that ranked in the top 30 nationally in both goals against average (0.92-27th) and shutout percentage (0.45- 24th)… logged the full 90 minutes or more in each of his final 17 appearances.
As a Sophomore (2018)
Made 16 appearances, nine of which were starts… started and played 74 minutes or more in each of the Red Storm’s last five games, including four efforts of 90-plus minutes… logged five shots on the year, one of which was on target… played an integral role in a Red Storm defensive unit that finished fourth in the BIG EAST with a 1.16 goals against average.
As a Freshman (2017)
Played in 16 games as a reserve… helped the Red Storm lead the BIG EAST and rank 15th nationally with a 0.71 goals against average… tallied his lone shot of the season at Butler (Sept. 30)… played a season-high 57 minutes at Seton Hall (Sept. 16).
At Manhattan Hunter Science (MLK Jr.)
Helped lead Martin Luther King Jr. to a pair of PSAL Championships, one of which came during his senior campaign, at Belson Stadium… a two-year team captain for the Knights… tallied four goals and 13 assists as a senior after registering three goals and 10 assists as a junior from the back line… helped MLK to a no. 14 ranking in the final USA TODAY/NSCAA poll… played his club ball for Manhattan Soccer Club, helping the squad to a pair of NY State Cup titles, a no. 4 national ranking and an NPL National Title in 2016… winner of the Manhattan Soccer Club’s Tom Rabsonek Award.

Rafael Sebastian Bustamante… son of Rafael and Ruth Bustamante… has a younger sister, Ashley… chose St. John’s because the University offers a “top-level team with exceptional education opportunities”… lists his mother as the person who most influenced his athletic career and Francis Coquelin as his favorite athlete… a member of the National Honor Society in high school… coached at the Asphalt Green Summer Day Camp.
