Anthony Wright

Anthony Wright joined the St. John's staff as the program's director of basketball operations in June of 2026.
Wright recently spent eight seasons at NC State as the men’s basketball program’s director of player personnel, working on the staff of former Rick Pitino assistant Kevin Keatts from 2017-25. In this role, Wright assisted student-athletes and coaches on multiple fronts, including community engagement and holistic program development. He also served as a liaison between the men's basketball team and the larger university community.
At NC State, Wright helped the Wolfpack reach the postseason five times in seven opportunities, including three bids to the NCAA Tournament. NC State won 20 or more games five times during that span.
In 2023-24, Wright was on staff for one of the most magical runs in college basketball postseason history, as the Wolfpack won five games in as many days at the ACC Tournament-- including victories over Duke, Virginia and North Carolina-- before rattling off four more wins to reach the program’s first Final Four since 1983. NC State defeated Duke in the regional final to secure their spot in Phoenix.
Prior to NC State, Wright spent 12 years at Louisville, the last six of which were with Pitino as the men’s basketball team’s director of academic services. With Wright leading the charge in the academic realm, the Cardinals won the 2010-11 BIG EAST Team Academic Excellence Award, posting the highest team GPA in the league. He oversaw a staff of full-timers and graduate assistants focusing on student-athlete academic progress and several other off-court areas.
Before Louisville, Wright also worked at Iowa State (2004-05) and Arizona (2001-04).
A native of Scotch Plains, N.J., Wright starred on the gridiron at the University of Maine. A two-time All-American, Wright holds the single-season school records for receptions (88) and yards (1,169). He also owns the single-game record for receptions (17).
Wright holds a bachelor’s degree from Maine and a master’s degree in special education from Louisville.
