Kyle Turri enters his third season in Queens after joining the St. John's lacrosse staff in July 2022, in the role of assistant coach.
Turri has served as the team’s offensive coordinator for the past two seasons and has overseen vast improvements in the unit each season. The Red Storm has increased its total goal output in each of the two years. Under his watch, Brian Kelly has eclipsed 40 points in the last two seasons and Bobby Seel reached the 40-point mark for the first time in 2024.
Prior to arriving in Queens, Turri spent the previous four years as the defensive coordinator at Hobart. Over his four seasons on the staff, Hobart compiled a record of 28-15 and finished NEC runner-up in two of the last three conference championships (2019 & 2022).
Throughout his tenure in Geneva, N.Y., Kyle Turri orchestrated a stellar Hobart defensive unit. Statistically, the Statesmen boasted a top-three scoring defense in the league during all four years under his direction. The 2019 squad ranked eighth in Division I in man-down defense, getting stops at an impressive 85 percent clip.
Among his accomplishments at Hobart, Kyle Turri mentored Statesmen netminder Sam Lucchesi, who appeared in 33 total games and logged 335 career saves. Following his stellar collegiate career, the Garden City, N.Y., native was selected as the 24th overall pick by the Chesapeake Bayhawks in the 2020 MLL Draft.
Prior to Hobart, he worked as an assistant coach at Binghamton during the 2017 campaign. While with the Bearcats, Kyle Turri’s role included mentoring the goaltenders, man-down unit and assisting with the rest of the defensive strategy. Under his guidance, Binghamton went 11-5 and finished runner-up in the America East Tournament. The defensive unit finished top-seven nationally in man-down defense (4th), clearing percentage (5th) and scoring defense (7th).
Kyle Turri began his coaching career in Columbus, serving as a volunteer assistant during the 2016 season at Ohio State. While working with the Buckeyes, the defensive unit registered the second-best clear percentage in the country during that season at 91.7 percent.
Like his older brother, the West Islip, N.Y., native played collegiate lacrosse at Duke under legendary coach John Danowski, winning back-to-back national titles in 2013-14. The goaltender made 41 career appearances, most notably recording the win during the 2013 National Championship in a 16-10 triumph over Syracuse.
