Matt Anthony serves as the Associate Athletics Director for Compliance and arrived in June 2024.
As Associate Athletics Director, he will oversee the day-to-day operations of the compliance department for all 17 athletic programs and maintain a comprehensive compliance monitoring program for all financial aid activities and all the nuances of bylaws pertaining to the playing and practice Season, He will provide on-going NCAA Rules Education programming to all student-athletes, coaches and athletic department staff members and supervise the compliance department, while acting as a liaison to the BIG EAST Conference and NCAA. Anthony will be a member of St. John's senior staff and will serve on the Council on Community, Culture, and Social Justice.
Anthony arrives after spending 12 years in various roles at Pace University in Pleasantville, N.Y. Most recently, he served as the Setters' Associate Athletic Director for Compliance/ Diversity, Equity and Inclusion after being promoted to the newly-created position in 2022. In this role, the Middletown, N.Y., native oversaw all initiatives related to DEI in conjunction with the Northeast 10 Conference.
Additionally, he oversaw Pace's compliance department as the assistant athletics director for compliance, where he directed all eligibility, financial aid, rules education and NCAA reporting. Anthony was promoted to the role in 2015 and ran the compliance department for his final nine years in Westchester.
Anthony has served on multiple committees throughout his career in collegiate athletics. He was a National Association for Athletics Compliance (NAAC) Division II Committee member and served on the NCAA Baseball Regional Advisory Committee. On-campus, he was the faculty advisor for the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and the sport administrator for multiple Setters athletic programs.
Anthony graduated with a master's degree in public administration from Pace in 2014. A former men's soccer four-year letterwinner and team captain at Ithaca College, he earned his bachelor's degree in sports management in 2012.
