Stephen Dombroski was named Senior Associate Athletics Director for External Relations in July 2017 after previously serving as Associate Athletics Director for Communications at St. John’s University since October 2014. Dombroski is a member of the athletic department’s executive staff. In his role, Dombroski oversees the media relations and publicity for the department’s 17 varsity athletic teams while serving as the department's primary contact for external operations and a sport administrator for men’s basketball. As Senior Associate Athletic Director, he is also responsible for managing the department’s advertising, branding, creative services, marketing, multimedia and the St. John’s University Television Network (SJU-TV).
Dombroski serves as a lead contact for external operations with Red Storm Athletic partners, such as FOX Sports, LEARFIELD, Madison Square Garden and Nike. He also represents St. John’s on the BIG EAST Conference Marketing Council.
Under Dombroski’s guidance, St. John’s Athletics has executed numerous strategic initiatives that have resulted in enhancements to the areas of revenue generation, social and digital expansion, brand strategy, fan development. During his tenure, the National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators (NACMA) has honored St. John’s with awards 24 times in the areas of fan experience, season ticket campaigns, revenue generating ideas and content, as well as online marketing. In addition, Collegiate Licensing Company (CLC) presented St. John’s with the 2023 Campus Integration Award at its national convention for the department’s multi-faceted We Are New York’s Team boroughs project. The brand campaign, which featured custom designs inspired by the University’s New York City roots, included in-game marketing and theme nights throughout the 2022-23 basketball season as well as a new apparel line available in retail.
Under his leadership, SJU-TV has experienced substantial growth in exposure and revenue generation, most notably by forming a new partnership to deliver live programming to FOX Sports Go and the BIG EAST Digital Network, which complements the department’s longstanding relationship with ESPN3/ESPN+.
Dombroski served as the athletic department’s representative on the University’s Strategic Planning Committee. He is also the chair of the St. John’s Athletics Hall of Fame Committee.
In 2024, Dombroski was honored with the Mike Cohen "Good Guy" Award presented by the Met Basketball Writers Association (MBWA), joining Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Coach Lou Carnesecca as the only individuals from St. John's University to receive the accolade.
Dombroski joined the St. John's staff after serving as Assistant Athletic Director for Digital Media & Communications at Seton Hall University. In this role, Dombroski directed media relations for the Pirates' 14 athletic programs. His primary responsibilities included managing publicity for Seton Hall's men's basketball program, while also serving as a communications and marketing liaison for partnerships with FOX Sports and Under Armour. Additionally, Dombroski implemented a digital media strategy that expanded the department's live and on-demand video operations and strengthened its mobile presence.
Prior to Seton Hall, Dombroski spent five years heading the Manhattan College Athletic Communications Office. Promoted to Assistant Athletic Director for Communications & Marketing at Manhattan in 2010, Dombroski oversaw the external relations operation for the Jaspers' 19 NCAA Division I athletic teams.
Dombroski held senior administrative responsibilities in Riverdale, including serving as the primary athletics constituent on the Presidential Committee for Manhattan's institutional branding campaign. In addition, he held a lead role in the management of a major facility enhancement to Draddy Gymnasium in 2011, which at the time was the largest improvement project since its construction in 1978.
Dombroski was instrumental in the development of Manhattan's High Definition live and on-demand video network, and secured a partnership with ESPN3. He spearheaded the implementation of an online ticketing platform, as well as managed the integration of a state-of-the-art instant replay system and two High Definition video boards in Draddy Gymnasium. Dombroski also managed athletic marketing, sponsorships and directed all multimedia initiatives.
Dombroski served on the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Technology Committee that developed the MAAC.tv video platform. He currently is an Advisory Board member of the nationally recognized Sports Video Group (SVG).
A native of Latham, N.Y., Dombroski came to Manhattan from Siena College, where he served as Assistant Sports Information Director. In this role, he aided in the public relations and marketing efforts for Siena's 18 NCAA Division I athletic programs. Dombroski assisted in the operations of home athletic events on campus and at the Times Union Center, a 13,000-seat off campus facility in downtown Albany that is the home court for Siena basketball.
Prior to Siena, Dombroski served as a graduate assistant at Wagner College, earning his master's degree in business administration with a concentration in marketing. Dombroski also worked in the public relations department at Madison Square Garden. In this capacity, he was responsible for media services for all Sports Properties events, including college basketball and professional boxing, and the public relations for MSG Networks.
Before his tenure at Madison Square Garden, Dombroski worked with the New Jersey Pride Professional Lacrosse team for the 2005 season in both marketing and public relations.
Dombroski has also assisted with media relations of the NCAA Men's Basketball Championship for 12 years (2003-2011, 2014, 2017, 2023) and the Women's Basketball Championship in Trenton, N.J. in 2006. He served as Media Coordinator for the 2017 and 2023 NCAA Men’s Basketball East Regionals at Madison Square Garden.
Dombroski, a 2004 graduate of Siena College, holds a bachelor's degree of science in marketing and management with a minor in psychology. Dombroski was a four-year member of the Saints' men's lacrosse team. In 2003, he attended the NCAA Student-Athlete Leadership Conference on behalf of Siena and the NCAA, a prestigious honor awarded to select student-athletes across the country. Additionally, Dombroski was a member of the MAAC Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC), while also serving on Siena's Student-Athlete Advisory Council.
Dombroski is an active member of the College Sports Communicators (CSC) and the National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators (NACMA).
Dombroski and his wife, Kara, sons, Jack and Nolan, and daughter, Raegan, reside in Westchester.
