10/26/2000 12:00:00 AM | Women's Basketball
Defending national champion Connecticut was tabbed the favorite once again, receiving 13 of the possible 14 first-place votes.
The Red Storm finished the 1999-00 campaign with an overall record of 11-18, and tied for ninth in the final regular season league standings with a 5-11 record. In her second season at the helm of the Red Storm, head coach Darcel Estep returns eight letterwinners from that squad, including three starters. Senior Latasha Thompson (Newark, N.J./Bloomfield Tech) returns as the teams leading scorer from last season with a 13.2 ppg average. Thompson, one of five seniors on the roster, looks to lead a talented group which includes five newcomers.
St. Johns will open up the 2000-01 season next weekend with an exhibition game against the N.Y. Gazelles on Sunday, November 5 at 2:00 in Alumni Hall.
